Catching up...

Monday, Mary had a blood transfusion, which is normal for a baby as small as her. She is feeling better and continuing to improve every day! She had an echo and there was no change with her PDA. We will just continue to monitor it. Her feedings are 4 mL every 3 hrs and she is tolerating them. Her Dr. was excited because her chest x-ray looks better today. Her weight today is 2 lbs 7 oz. I haven't gotten to hold her for a couple of days because she has been breathing rapid and needs her rest but today we held hands for a long time and she was very calm!

Maci was weened off of the oxygen, Monday and she is enjoying her freedom! She was wearing herself out taking a bottle every other feeding so they have decreased it to 2 bottles and 1 time nursing and all other feedings are through her tube. Her weight today is 4 lbs 11 oz. She had lost some because it takes a lot of energy, being in the open crib, to maintain her body temp and with bottle feeding. Her Daddo got to hold her for the first time yesterday! She loved it and made a lot of faces at him!

Miss Lilly is into everything, as most 2-1/2 year olds! She's is such a big helper! Tonight she helped Daddo in the garden and also helped cook dinner. I'm sure that when her baby sisters come home she will help take care of them!!

Getting Started

We thought this would be a great way to inform friends and family of the progress of "Our 3 Sweeties!"

Lilly has been such a trooper throughout our stay in the hospital and all of our trips and visits to see her baby sisters! She looks at the pictures of the babies with love and she is ready to see them in person and "play" with them!

Maci has been making progress really quickly! She started at 4 lbs 4 oz and today she weighs 4 lbs 11 oz. She is eating 39 mL of breast milk every 3 hrs, alternating between the bottle and tube feeding. No more IV nutrients. She is being weened off of the nasal cannula, and will hopefully be free of it this evening or tomorrow. She got to start wearing clothes this week and she moved into an open bed out of the heated isolet.

Mary being so small has slowly began feedings of breast milk this past week, and since that started she is much happier and making progress everyday! She started at 1 lb 14 oz and today she weighs 2 lbs 6 oz. I can tell that she has grown and is starting to fill out. This week she was changed from the CPAP to nasal cannula and she likes it much better! We had a little scare early in the week that she might have to have surgery. Her PDA ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_ductus_arteriosus ) was measuring large after being treated with medicine (indomethacin.) They did an echo Monday afternoon and the report came back moderate. We are still watching it but we are hopeful that it will close on it's own without surgery. She will have another echo tomorrow.

Today I (Andi) got to hold both girls together for the first time!! It was awesome to see them snuggle!! I can't wait to hold all three of my sweet girls together!!

Touching hands!
